Craftsman Accessory Building University District

Flexible accessory structure replaces dilapidated garage [more]

A small dilapidated garage was replaced with this accessory structure designed to be an away space (with shop) that could be converted back to a garage. The vernacular mimics the intact craftsman style of the house. The high gable allowed for generous storage via drop down stairs. This is also an example of how a back yard cottage could be worked into a site.

Cost effective materials were used to create the craftsman look: small exposure cement fiber board lap siding using corner clips instead of bulky and distracting corner boards and one extra layer of drywall on the ceiling to intimate a coffer.
